What is Mediplant ?Presentation - Aromatic and medicinal plants sector -Visiting card -
Collaboration network - Agencies of the AssociationPresentationFounded in 1988 by three partners - the Dalle Molle Foundation, the State of Valais and the Helvetic Confederation - MEDIPLANT is a research centre devoted to medicinal and aromatic plants and their cultivation.
MEDIPLANT is an association, as defined by Article 60 and its sub-articles of the Swiss Civil Code.
On basis of quality criteria defined by its users, and in collaboration with the Federal Research Station on Plants at Changins, the Engineering School of Valais and Swiss universities, MEDIPLANT executes work on the domestication and genetic improvement of new medicinal and aromatic plants.
MEDIPLANT specialises in plants adapted to mountain regions and farming techniques which are environment-friendly.

Our area of activity
The aim of our research is to improve quality and reduce production costs of medicinal and aromatic plants, through works on :
- Estimation of exploitable plant resources and domestication of wild flower species
- Selection of new varieties
- Improving agricultural production techniques
- improving techniques of refinement and preservation

Our premises
Mediplant is located in Conthey in the canton of Valais, at the "Centre de recherche Conthey", in buildings belonging to the Agroscope Changins-Wädenswil Research Station (ACW). At our disposal, we have :
in addition to all the equipment necessary for agronomic trials.
- several hectares of lowland and mountain land for our trial cultivations
- greenhouses
- a drying room
- a laboratory for analysis (distillation, thin layer chromatography, germination tests, ...)
- an in vitro laboratory for micro-cuttings
- a library
Located in buildings which belong to the Confederation, our team benefits from a privileged and unique scientific setting and is able to count on support from the various ACW departments:
We also keep up regular contacts with schools, universities and other research bodies from Switzerland and abroad.
